Our aim, to improve and protect the integrity of ecosystems and wetland resource areas throughout coastal Massachusetts and New England, leads us to provide whole-systems thinking and skillful project execution on scales ranging from residential properties to larger conservation tracts and commercial developments.

We offer trusted expertise to help clients understand and navigate permitting processes under state and local environmental protection regulations. We guide our clients toward integrated solutions that address their needs and project objectives, while valuing ecological integrity and upholding regulation performance standards. In addition to consulting services, our designers are trained to provide simple, beautiful, artful solutions for enjoying outdoor spaces that blend seamlessly with structural design.

Theresa Sprague | Founder & Principal Designer       theresa@blueflaxdesign.com

Blending backgrounds in communication and education with more than 20 years experience in horticulture, landscape planning, and ecological design, Theresa Sprague founded BlueFlax Design LLC in 2009 with the aim of merging science with fine art of landscape design to create beautiful and sustainable landscapes, restoring ecological function and integrity to the built environment, while thoughtfully creating habitat that supports the needs of both people and wildlife. In addition to her work at BlueFlax Design, Theresa also serves as Vice Chair and Trustee at the Conway School and is a former President of the Ecological Landscape Alliance. Theresa holds a BA (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Massachusetts, and a Masters Degree in Ecological Design.

 

Caitlin Camilliere (CC) | Restoration Landscape Designer cc@blueflaxdesign.com

CC joined BlueFlax Design in August 2022 after completing her Masters of Science degree in Ecological Landscape Design and Planning from the Conway School in Northampton, MA. Prior to that, she spent 6 years in Wyoming playing in and being part of the outdoor education and adventure world. She is passionate about connecting people with nature, and is excited to design and create harmonious spaces that support both humans and wildlife through thoughtful design and planning. In addition to a Masters degree, CC also holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a Permaculture Design Certificate from Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Vermont.

 

Genevieve (Jenny) Goldleaf | Restoration Landscape Designer jenny@blueflaxdesign.com

Jenny joined BlueFlax Design in June 2023. In her design practice, Jenny works to integrate ecological principles to create climate-resilient landscapes and habitats that invite joyful connections to the land. She holds a Master’s of Science in Ecological Design and Planning from The Conway School, and a BA in Environmental Science and Medieval/Renaissance Studies from Wellesley College. Before joining BlueFlax, Jenny spent ten years working to build a more just and resilient food system in New England, connecting beginning farmers to farmland, funding and training; and as a freelance calligrapher, illustrator and editor. Outside of design, she loves visiting historic working landscapes across New England, weaving, and working in her garden. A former resident of Woods Hole, Jenny splits her time between working out of the BlueFlax office and western Massachusetts.

Pete Tubman | Environmental Technician Field Manager      

A native Cape Codder, Pete brings twelve years of experience working in landscaping and ecological restoration after twelve years in the excavation/construction industry, and cumulatively twenty-five years of experience operating heavy equipment. Over the years, Pete has been involved in a multitude of successful coastal stabilization, invasive plant removal, and native plant restoration projects throughout the Cape and Islands area. Pete is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys rising to the challenges of hard work and problem-solving that are required in restoration work. Pete holds a Massachusetts CDL, hoisting license, OSHA occupational safety and health certificate, and invasive plant management certificate.

Mike Tanis | Environmental Technician & GIS Specialist

A USMC veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, Mike attended Rutgers University and received a B.S. in Ecology, Natural Resources and Marine Science, and a certificate in Geographic Information Sciences. He spent five years working for the National Park Service as a biologist and cartographer mapping coastal erosion and researching salt marsh and estuarine ecology. He has a Massachusetts pesticide applicator license and an Invasive Plant Management Certificate from University of Massachusetts.

Josh Kremp | Environmental Technician

Josh is a Cape Cod native and brings experience working in landscape maintenance, construction, hardscape, and mechanical work. He majored in Environmental Science at Cape Cod Community College and completed two years at Cape Cod regional technical high school studying marine services where he became adept at rebuilding, repairing, and maintaining inboard and outboard engines, as well as electrical and cosmetic work. While in school Josh gained experience as a horticulturist and botanical specialist which spurred his passion for landscape design, and environmental sustainability work. He is always open and ready to learn, and finds value in restoring ecological and environmental conditions on Cape Cod.

 

Connor Mannion | Environmental Technician

Connor is a recent graduate from University of Colorado in Denver, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. While living in Colorado, Connor gained experience as a cultivator in the cannabis industry and his knowledge for plants expanded. This gave Connor a new passion for sustainable practices and organic growing. He finds value in bringing restoration to the Cape and is excited for the opportunity to continue learning. When he isn’t working, you can usually find him relaxing on the beach with family and friends or grilling in the backyard with his two rescue dogs.

 

Zack Scott | Environmental Technician

Zach joined BlueFlax Design in June 2023. He spent almost five years working as an ecological restoration technician with a heavy emphasis on invasive plant management and restoration planting. He enjoys working outside, learning new plants and restoration techniques. Zach is excited to be back home on Cape Cod working to improve the ecological health of the developed environment. He has a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Masters Degree in Biology and Environmental Science from the University of Rhode Island. He developed an interest in habitat management while researching native bees on cranberry bogs and blueberry farms, and discovered the exciting field of habitat restoration while working as a pollinator technician on restored prairie habitats.

 

Tabi Sprague | Business Development Coordinator

Tabi joined Blue Flax Design LLC in November, 2021. With a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Centro Universitário UNA, Belo Horizonte, Brazil and ten years of experience in customer service, Tabi’s focus as Business Development Coordinator is to facilitate improved client communication and customer service as key to guiding the balanced growth and development of the company. Tabi moved from Brazil to Massachusetts in 2012. She speaks three languages including English, Portuguese, and Spanish. She enjoys sailing with her husband on Buzzards Bay, travelling, and spending time with family, friends, and her beloved rescue bunnies BunBun and Cappuccino.
